Fatehpur has two bus stands, both close together in the centre of town on the main Sikar-Churu (north-south) road. Buses from the government Roadways stand, the one furthest south, serve Jaipur (25 daily; 3hr 30min), Ramgarh (hourly) and Bikaner (14 daily; 3hr 30min-4hr), as well as Delhi (5 daily; 6hr). Private buses, most of them handsome old snub-nosed Tata Mercedes vehicles, run from the stand further north along the bazaar to Mandawa (every 2hr; 30min), Jhunjhunu (every 30min; 1hr), Mahansar (4 daily; 45min) and Ramgarh (hourly; 30min).

The railway station , east of town, has four daily trains to Churu, one continuing to Bikaner, and four to Sikar, of which two go on to Jaipur; these, however, run at inconvenient times.

A kilometer south of town, just off NH-11, is the modern RTDC Hotel Haveli (phone 01571/20293; Rs400-900), the town's only commendable hotel . The rooms, some of which have a/c or air-coolers, are large and light, but in other respects this is a typical government-run place with dodgy plumbing, a noisy television hall on the ground floor and less-than-helpful staff.

It's also a fair walk from the bazaar and bus stand; if you aim to catch the early morning (6.30am) express service to Bikaner, note that rather than lug your gear up to the Roadways stand, you can flag the bus down from the roadside next to the hotel.

For food , you've a less than inspiring choice between the RTDC Hotel Haveli 's hit-and-miss, overpriced menu (whose only redeeming feature is its cold beers), or the row of basic dhabas near the bus stand.
