Sawai Madhopur straddles the main train line, but many of the services from here are painfully slow passenger ones, so check timings at the tourist office before you book, or you could spend unnecessary hours traveling.

For Jaipur, take the Mumbai-Jaipur Express (#2955) at 10.35am (2hr 15min). There are also direct services to Bharatpu, of which the quickest is the Golden Temple Mail (#2903) leaving at 1pm (2hr 30min), and daily departures to Jodhpur (8hr 30min), and Agra (5hr).

Buses, slower and less comfortable, run to Jaipur (2 daily; 5hr), Kota (4 daily; 4hr), and Ajmer (3 daily; 8hr) from a stand on the market area's main street, just before the bridge.

For Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh), however, you'll have to trek out to the city bus stand in Sawai Madhopur City.
